I recently attended DevOps Enterprise Summit (DOES16), which ran Nov. 7-9 in San Francisco. This event marked a major milestone in CollabNet’s history. We announced a brand new product, the DevOps Lifecycle Manager (DLM), a platform for managing the entire DevOps toolchain, and we introduced our Clarive partnership, extending CollabNet’s expertise into the application release automation (ARA) space. This means our solutions can help Dev and Ops teams through the entire software development lifecycle and return feedback upstream for true continuous integration and continuous delivery.
The event brought together thought leaders and practitioners who are passionate about seeing DevOps goals and methodologies advance. This year was significant because there is a great deal of discussion about what the next generation of DevOps solutions must cover.
Speakers from some of the world’s largest organizations such as Target and Disney shared inspiring success stories about bringing together teams, creating more positive and collaborative work environments, and speeding up delivery—all while improving efficiency and cutting costs. We learned from them that the underlying DevOps principles of teamwork, empathy, and cross-disciplinary visibility do work. They produce positive results for organizations that adopt them. Innovation in next-generation DevOps solutions has to support those principles.
This kind of thinking is in our DNA. As you can tell from our company name, “collaboration” is where we’ve been hanging our hat since day one. It’s a great feeling to see our message resonating with so many people. We’ve always been good at connecting teams and tools and have been deeply involved in the development space with solutions for enterprise versioning and source-code management.
Now our latest solutions, both the DevOps Lifecycle Manager and Clarive by CollabNet, take CollabNet beyond Dev teams and into Ops—giving organizations a single platform to manage the complete DevOps Lifecycle.
Something that stood out in almost all of the presentations at DOES16 was the vast number of tools and point solutions companies are using to achieve their goals. Many speakers at some point in their presentations even listed the hodge-podge of vendors and tools they have in their toolchains. Different teams within an organization use a variety of different tools, and the resulting complexity can become overwhelming for enterprises.
Tool integration and rationalization is missing from today’s DevOps solutions, and we heard folks affirming the need for a unifying platform loud and clear at DOES16.
That’s CollabNet’s specialty, and we’ve been helping customers, including early adopters of our new DLM platform, by providing visibility, traceability, and collaboration across teams and projects. We’ve been committed to DevOps for quite some time, and it’s wonderful to see the IT community understanding the building blocks of our mission—to develop better quality software faster.
Rodrigo Gonzalez, CEO and co-founder of Clarive, and I discussed our partnership and CollabNet’s exciting new announcements with Alan Shimmel, founder and editor-in-chief at DevOps.com last week during DOES16. To watch our full interview, click here.
