I recently spoke with DZone about the cloud application landscape for the 2016 Guide to Building and Deploying Applications in the Cloud, and got  to chime in on questions like these:

What is the future of cloud-based applications?
What skills make someone good at developing and deploying applications in the cloud?
And, what should developers keep in mind when working with cloud apps?

The 2016 Guide to Building and Deploying Applications on the Cloud, is a valuable time-saving research guide for IT professionals covering topics such as:
–aaS adoption, cloud security models, container use, and more.  It gives you articles and checklists, and a pull-out poster displaying the 12-factor methodology that can help you design and run fast, reliable, easy-to-update cloud-native applications for a variety of use cases.

Sure, cloud computing is the norm for any savvy business today, but as DZone’s Editor-in-Chief, John Esposito, iterates in the cloud guide, that just ten years ago you could never roll out software or applications the way you do today, and many of the improvements we’ve seen in the delivery chain are thanks to the cloud.  As we’ve said before at CollabNet, cloud is a way to provide IT services and the development of cloud computing goes hand-in-hand with the development of Agile (you can read more about this topic in our previous blog post, Agile in Action with Cloud Computing).

DZone compiled my thoughts along with insights from 28 other executives in the 2016 Guide to Building and Deploying Applications on the Cloud.

The top three research findings from the executive insights were:

  1. Build platform-agnostic cloud-based apps to ensure they will work anywhere and prevent being locked-in to a particular cloud.
  2. Scalability, security, and the ability to control costs are the key reasons why companies are going to cloud-based apps.
  3. Cloud-based applications will be at the forefront of connecting all data — video, voice, IoT — every device will be connected.
